Discover San Cristóbal

Built in 1546, this church is viewed as one of the most famous colonial-style Baroque buildings in Latin America. Now fully restored, the Santo Domingo Church is magnificently ornamented in gorgeous detail. Its interior has a stunning pulpit and eight altarpieces that date back to the 16th and 17th centuries. Be sure to take note of the carefully preserved paintings inside this lovely church as well.

Exquisite art can be made with embroidered or woven cloth. And you can see some of the most beautiful examples of this artwork at the Mayan Textiles Center Museum. The richly detailed pieces in lovely colors will delight you.

Everything you’ve ever wanted to know about the formation and uses of amber can be discovered at this wonderful museum. With more than 300 pieces on display, you’ll learn how amber is extracted and applied to jewelry and sculptural pieces.

Hiking trails, scenic areas to walk by the river and an exciting cave to explore are just some of the enticing features of this natural park. You can even see some native plant life. It’s a great place to visit for a bit of relaxation.

Before you leave the Chiapas area, make sure to stop by Cañón del Sumidero. This canon is spectacular with its dramatically high cliff walls.
